, there are relatively limited operations. over a third of these strikes have killed members of the taliban. recently, a pakistan major- general acknowledged for the first time officially that the numbers of people is relatively low who are killed. just to get into that in a little bit more detail, under president obama, this seems to be a shift away from al qaeda. about 25% of the targets were al qaeda, 40% were taliban. that was under torture of the bush. under obama, just over 50% for taliban targets. the number of military leaders who have been killed has been declining overall. it has only been 2%. 49 militant leaders have been killed. this initially seem to be designed to kill military leaders. we calculated somewhere between 1300 of roughly 2300 militants have been killed. we calculate the civilian casualty rate, 33% under president bush, dropped to close to 2% under president obama. this is a controversial point. some people have criticized us for our claim or our finding case on reliable medium reported. 2% are called on known. no one is criticizing us except the defenders of the drone progr

the relationship between the taliban and al-qaeda in afghanistan and depicting the taliban as the kinder, gentler new taliban. she's covered it. she says it's not true. look at the "new york times" today. in pakistan, the taliban gunned down a 14-year-old girl, a 14-year-old girl who was a children right's activist who was an activist for women who wanted to get an education. the taliban went onto a bus near catchy, pakistan, and executed her. we know now in syria that the al-qaeda has infilt rated that opposition movement against the syrian government. so we look at syria, we look at pakistan. we look at afghanistan. we look at iraq. we look at embassy protests in yemen and tunisia and egypt which have allegedly been tied to al-qaeda. so we see a resurgence of al-qaeda, resurgence of taliban that is not consistent with the narrative we've been hearing from the administration. >> steve: the white house wants to get the heck out of afghanistan as soon as possible and if al-qaeda is regenerating, that's not helpful and lara logan from cbs, here she is spilling the beans that americans need to know.

they noticed was the deadline, and what our pakistani friends have noticed is the deadline. with the taliban has noticed is the deadline and everybody is clinging to that deadline including president karzai quite frankly who has no other choice. what mr. romney has said is, yes, that works as long as the military thinks it works. if you trust the commanders on the ground, and they say they can't be just yet, then you are going to change the plan and the taliban is terrified of that. the last thing they need is to know that the united states may not leave as quickly as they expect. and look what happened in iraq. we didn't work all that hard to make sure there was a sofa status of forces agreement with iraq and look at iraq today. the man who is trying very hard to become a shia dictator with civil war breaking out again, with al qaeda active not only in iraq but with iraq's neighbors, so how well have we done? that we brought peace and democracy to iraq? are the iraqi people safe? the answer that we know is no. so the differences mr. romney says, and this goes to the question, how many troop
